Social Distancing App: A Tool to Maintain Safe Distances
Social Distancing App is a free Android application designed to help users calculate and maintain a safe distance from other individuals. Developed by Sunil Gutti, this app falls under the category of Social & Communication. With the aim of promoting social distancing, the app allows users to calculate the approximate distance between themselves and nearby users.
The app functions by either having the user and nearby individuals run the app or having a Bluetooth-enabled device in discoverable mode. The Contact History feature displays a list of users who have been within 6 feet of each other.
Notifications are sent every 30 seconds to alert users with a beep and vibration. However, if the device is in silent mode, the app will not produce any sound or vibration. Notification settings can be controlled within the app.
One of the key advantages of this app is that users do not need to create an account to use it, ensuring anonymity. Furthermore, the app does not consume data from the user's mobile data plan, relying solely on Bluetooth and Location Services to function. It can even operate in Airplane mode.
The app supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, and Telugu. It also provides four social distancing signs to indicate the proximity of other users. These signs range from black, indicating a search for nearby users, to yellow and red, which warn users when someone is within 6 feet. The green sign indicates that users are at a safe distance.
In addition to the signs, the app includes a Contact History feature and six menu options, such as About, Contact History, Find All Bluetooth Devices, Preferences, Privacy Policy, and Share.
